We take care of our environment
GBJ environmental stewardship policy includes local legislative and stakeholder priorities within the Democratic Republic of Congo where we operate.
Our responsibility is stratified into short, intermediate and long term corrective and restorative environmental interventions. Our goal is to enhance the confidence of our diamond consumers in believing the diamond product they consume has been obtained in pursuit of the highest standards of environmental and ethical care.
We achieve this by developing and implementing appropriate environmental policies, systems, programmes and training and complying with relevant legislation and requirements, aligning with both local and international good practice.
We will ensure that our producing mines are certified compliant with the ISO 14001 international standard for environmental management systems as the foundation for continual improvement. [include this but will need to edit further are we are not there yet a bit aspiration at the moment]

BIODIVERSITY
GBJ ensures that there is no net loss of significant biodiversity through responsible planning and stewardship of biodiversity, from exploration through to the closure of operations and making a contribution to biodiversity conservation in our catchment areas of operation.
PROTECTED AREAS
We respect legally designated Protected Areas and key biodiversity areas and do not mine within World Heritage Site Core Areas. We support efficient and sustainable use of natural resources, including energy and water, by employing the principles of effective utilization and recycling. We engage in climate change initiatives.
SAFE ENVIRONMENT
GBJ joint venture partnerships and contractors are all obligated to follow practices consistent with safe environmental policies. We engage in regular monitoring, auditing and reviewing environmental performance and compliance to ensure continual improvement. We report environmental risks and performance publicly and provide assurance to our Board of Directors.
