Community Engagement
Together we stand
In May 2018, at least half of all children under the age of five are suffering from acute malnutrition, including 260,000 children who are at risk of dying because they are severely malnourished. Education has been disrupted, families have been displaced and children have been exploited as child soldiers.we will work along with the local authorities to tackle: 1) malnutrition; 2) lack of basic medical care; and 3) basic education in alignment of our vision of mining for the people and ensuring sustainability of the environment.
Background
“With a population of 3.5 million, Kasai province is one of the most populated areas of the DRC with a density of 33.3 habitant per km2. UNICEF reported that Conflict has torn apart the Kasai region of the DRC since violence flared up in 2016, and children have been its main victims. GBJConsulting Ltd’s leadership’s team has a great connection to the Kasai communities having worked there on a number of projects in different capacities and have built strong relationships with the leaders of the communities.
OUR BOUNDRIES
Travelling through the area you can witness the consequences left behind by the trouble and fight known as “Kamwina Nsapu rebelion”. Our permits are located along the Kasai River in the south and north in close proximity to a number of villages including the principal city, Tshikapa, which is located somewhat in the middle of the lineup of our permits.
THE ADVOCATES
GBJ/MIKAS understand the needs of the communities we work in and will be a strong advocate to the central local government for our communities to ensure that portions of taxes and royalties are allocated to the development and enhancement of life conditions of people in the region of our operations.
