PROJECTS STRATegy
GBJ’s overall strategy is to develop the entire 17 concessions into a viable diamond mining operation and be the leading and most valuable diamond mining company on the Kasai River basin and in the DRC. The strategy will be executed in phases through a mixed approach of self-development and partnership with other mining companies
Our Business
GBJ, through its subsidiary Minière du Kasai Sprl (MIKAS), has acquired 17 Diamond Mining Concessions in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). MIKAS is a joint venture (JV) company between GBJ and Société Minière du Bakwanga (MIBA), the Congolese state-owned diamond mining company. The JV is a 50% – 50% net revenue sharing arrangement between GBJ and MIBA. Through the arrangement, MIBA has released 17 concessions to MIKAS, and GBJ is to finance operations and share net revenue with MIBA after all GBJ finance investments have been recouped. The concessions are located in the territories of Kamonia, Kazumba and Ilebo in western Kasai and have an initial exploitation period of 10 years starting in 2020 and renewable after the initial ten years period, typically over a 30 year period. GBJ has a majority representation (appoints 3 out of the 5 members) on the Board of Directors (MIKAS board) and also appoints MIKAS management. In essence, GBJ sets strategy, executes and manages the operations of the JV. The concessions are located on the rich diamond region of the Kasai River.
